Mountain Tuscan Retreat, Aspen, CO

The project was to transform a large 120-acre Aspen ranch, into a full-time residence for this high-profile client with 4 additional homes around the world. With 4 1⁄2 years to completion, this Tuscan style farmhouse was designed to have an old world feeling, with fine quality and a timeless style, along with a 10,000SF guest house, pool, tennis, two state-of-the-art playgrounds and several additional guest houses.

Their style was comfortably luxe and they wanted each room to take on a genre of itself. Light infused spaces in the gallery, living room and dining room with vaulted ceilings that enhanced the drama of these spaces. Materials and furnishings were brought in from Paris, Israel, India and Asia and became a collaborative effort of found pieces from the designer and clients. From reclaimed flooring to ancient tiles, the elements gave the home an instant patina. World class art collection pervasive throughout and also sprinkled the grounds outside. Antique fireplaces and mantels were some of the first items found, which set the stage for the other items to follow. The large stone fireplace and carved wood mantle, found from an old French vineyard dating back to 1475, anchored the living room. Special antique gates were incorporated into the design for the wine cellar, retrofitted with tempered glass for controlled temperatures. Vintage match stick terracotta tiles inlaid into the barrel vault ceiling. The master suite commanding an amazing view over the Roaring Fork River was a quiet retreat reflecting Asian tranquility. The woven inlay ceiling, bamboo flooring and teak beams along with rice paper inlay doors, opened into a master bathroom, complete with a teak soaking tub and sinks.

Hand sewn beaded draperies, layers of faux finishes, the twinkle of illumination from antique lighting, chiseled textures on wood beams, reclaimed stone flooring once on the streets of Jerusalem, all add precision of detail and execution.
