Miner's Cabin, Aspen, CO

This unique main house and guest house project is nestled along the Roaring Fork river in Aspen, CO and was designed to respect the Victorian 1850's miner cabin guest house architecture, which happened to be one of the original Sears Kit houses. The project scope entailed relocating this cabin. A total historic renovation, designing the main house with a link to the miners cabin. The interior design program was to create a warm, elegant interior with a timeless European influence for our bachelor client's primary residence. A glass entrance foyer with custom copper and zinc doors connected the two dwellings, allowing circulation between the Guest House and Main House. Natural limestone, impregnated plaster and antique wormy chestnut floors and millwork embraced the main house, while pine floors, tin ceilings and period tiles restored the guest house. The lower level media room and office provided state of the art of telecommunications and audio technologies. The entry level was designed for circulation for private master quarters and stair hall. The upper level, where spectacular views were the backdrop for entertaining with a kitchen, dining area, great room and a library for quiet reading. Custom light fixtures, ambient and task, along with natural light, were controlled through a computerized panel system tied into the audio system throughout the house.
